Checkpoints and Versions
A Project can be taken back to an earlier state in two ways. Both are in the Thread panel, on the right of the editor.
| What | What it is | Who makes it |
|---|---|---|
| Checkpoint | The Project as it was before a Run | The editor, before every Run |
| Version | The Project as it was at a moment a Member gave a name | You, with Name this version |
Go back to before a Run
Section titled “Go back to before a Run”- Find the Run’s entry in the Thread. It has to be over: Done, Failed, or Stopped.
- Click Restore to before this.
- Read what it takes back, and click Restore. Keep leaves everything as it is.
The restore is done in its turn, like a Run, and shows in the Thread as an entry of its own.
The Thread itself is not taken back: the entries of the Runs stay, as the record of what was asked.
No restore is offered while a Run is working. Stop it first, or wait for it.
Take a restore back
Section titled “Take a restore back”A restore keeps the Project as it was just before it. Its own entry in the Thread, “Restore the Project to an earlier state”, has Restore to before this too: that brings back what the restore took away.
Name a Version
Section titled “Name a Version”Name the Project as it is now when it is in a state worth coming back to: before a large change, or when something works.
- Click Name this version, under the text field of the Thread.
- Type a name and press
Enter.Escapeleaves without naming.
The Thread shows “Named this version”, with the name and who named it.
Go back to a Version
Section titled “Go back to a Version”- Find the Version’s entry in the Thread.
- Click Restore this version.
- Read what it takes back, and click Restore.
As with a Checkpoint, this takes back every Run after it and everything anyone changed since.
Restore or undo?
Section titled “Restore or undo?”Undo (Mod+Z) | Restore | |
|---|---|---|
| Takes back | Your own last step in the open Document | Everything in the Project since a moment |
| For whom | Your steps only | Every Member |
| Reaches | Scenes and prefabs | Scenes, prefabs, scripts, and assets |
| Taken back with | Redo (Shift+Mod+Z) | Restore to before this, on its entry |
Where they are kept
Section titled “Where they are kept”Checkpoints and Versions are commits in the Project’s own git repository, so they are there when the Project has been stopped and started again. Between Runs, what Members change is put there every few minutes as well.
